After the start of World War II, with the aim to reduce the cost of production, simplify design and increase the number of the trucks, the design of ZIS-5 has been revised . The car received a wooden cabin, bent wings instead of stamped ones. Only the left headlight and brake on the rear wheels were left. The effect of simplicity was the reducing of the car weight by 125 kilograms. In the simplified version, the car was produced from 1942 to 1946 at the factory named after Stalin and at the Ural Automobile Plant (Ural-VMS) until 1963.
